Museu do Vitral
Museums & Thematic Centres
About
The Museu do Vitral has opened in the heart of Morro da Sé. It compiles a selection of works by João Aquino Antunes, from traditional stained glass windows to decorative panels and abstract art installations. In addition, it includes a recreation of part of the artist's studio, with sketches and maquettes.
João Aquino Antunes is, it should be noted, the last Portuguese painter who dedicated his life to stained glass and belongs to the family of craftspeople from Atelier Antunes, founded in 1906 and the oldest in Portugal. He is internationally recognised and has works on display all over the world.
The Casa da Vandoma is still a heritage of this family of craftspeople. In addition to the strategic location due to its proximity to the Sé [Cathedral] and the São Bento Station, it is also important to note that the area is part of Morro da Sé, the core area of the Historic Centre of Porto, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
