Museu Judaico do Porto
Museums & Thematic Centres
About
The guided tours of the Porto Jewish Museum/Synagogue will help visitors understand the architectural and symbolic importance of this, the largest synagogue in the Iberian Peninsula. You will also learn something about the religious, cultural and historical sides of Judaism.
The museum houses a varied collection of objects and documents relating to Judaism as a religious practice and to the history of the Jews of Porto, from medieval times through to today. There is a special focus on the life and work of Captain Barros Basto, the founder of the community here in the city.
The Museum is only open for training sessions and school visits. For other visits, prior registration is required and subject to availability (Monday to Friday from 10 am to 12 pm).
