About
Around 1860, the mouth of the river Douro was little more than a fishing village. The way that led from there to Matosinhos used to be called Estrada de Carreiros (paths). The designation Carreiros (paths) refers to the fact that it was a path through which rode oxcarts with their drivers.
In 1930 council projects concerning the embellishment of Avenida do Brasil were approved; the year after, the pergola was concluded.
