ESMAE (Higher School of Music, Art and Entertainment of the Porto Polytechnic Institute) was founded from the Higher School of Music, following a centuries-old tradition of music teaching in Porto, and it was created with the purpose of expanding its educational offering to Theatre and Dance. It is composed of the Music and Theatre departments and the Photography, Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia departments as well. Teatro Helena Sá e Costa and Café-Concerto are located in ESMAE, where dance and theatre shows are frequent, as products of the students’ initiative.
