About
Inaugurated in 1839 as the first public cemetery in Porto, it is considered a true `death museum`. Porto’s funeral art is very specific, mainly with neo gothic characteristics, using granite and very monumental. From various constructions of historic and artistic value, the following can be highlighted: the cemetery chapel, the charnel house of the nuns from the old Convent of S. Bento de Avé-Maria, the cemetery cross with a Christ in iron, as well as remarkable graves and mausoleums of varied relevant people.
