About

Rua do Almada currently houses some bars and restaurants and several traditional and alternative commercial shops, located in old buildings, some of which have been recovered. It follows the city centre, crossing various points of interest.
Opened by the Board of Public Works in 1764, with a project by Francisco Xavier do Rego and Francisco Pinheiro da Cunha, and driven by João de Almada e Melo, it follows the route of the ancient Roman road from Porto to Braga, having been financed by income paid at the rate of one real for every pint of wine consumed in the city.
Part of the Urban Wine Route.
