About

It still incorporates some romantic features from the original garden. Some of these are the iron bandstand, two lakes with water features, camellias and sycamore trees although they have been altered by subsequent renovations.

The garden currently has two access points to the underground station and these accesses are camouflaged by long camellia hedges.

This garden located in Praça Marquês de Pombal is from the beginning of the 19th century and is situated in the old Largo da Aguardente.

Circa 1850, the square already had its current configuration, and in 1870 the Aguardente bullring was erected, which together with the Rotunda da Boavista bullring were the only two bullfighting venues in the city of Porto. It was opened in 1898 and had a romantic aspect.

Fun fact: It was one of the city's defense lines during the French invasions and during the siege of Porto.
