The Centros Nacionais de Apoio ao Imigrante (CNAI) were created in 2004 to respond to some of the difficulties felt by immigrants in their integration process in Portugal. ACIDI created a centre which brought together various services, institutions and Support Offices for the Immigrant, such as Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF), Segurança Social (SS), Autoridade para as Condições de Trabalho (ACT), Conservatória dos Registos Centrais (CRC) and Ministério da Educação (ME).
The CNAI's also have specialised departments, such as Gabinete de Apoio ao Reagrupamento Familiar (GARF), o Gabinete de Apoio Jurídico ao Imigrante (GAJI), Gabinete de Apoio Social (GAS), Gabinete de Apoio à Habitação (GAH), Gabinete de Apoio ao Emprego (with two areas, one for the coordination of the GIP Imigrante Network - Gabinete de Inserção Profissional - and the other specialised in the area of Entrepreneurship), Gabinete de Apoio ao Imigrante Consumidor (GAIC) and Gabinete de Apoio à Qualificação (GAQ).
