Reopened to the public in May 2013, at Casa da Prelada, this archive stores the documentation collected by Misericórdia in the exercise of its activity, and that of closed institutions that also belonged to it. The conditions for members of the public to access documents are created here and the dissemination of the Misericórdia’s document collection is promoted through the publication of inventories, scientific works and the holding of exhibitions. In the reading rooms, access to information is done by directly consulting the documentation or its digitisation.

The Historical Archive has a reprography service and also makes available its Digital Inventory, hosted on the AtoM (Access to Memory) platform.

Public access is free and requires prior appointment via email arquivohistorico@scmp.pt.

The Archive includes an open access Library, specialised mainly in the following themes: Misericórdias; History of the City of Porto; Art History.
