The Teatro de Marionetas do Porto (Porto Puppets Theatre), which was founded in 1988, aims to produce puppets shows. From the beginning it has strived to revive traditional style puppet theatre, like that of the Dom Roberto theatre. In 1992, the Teatro de Marionetas do Porto opened the Belmonte Theatre, dedicating it solely to house productions.
It is currently engaged in the opening of the Porto Puppets Museum, which will be located in Rua das Flores. It will be a public exhibition comprising of important pieces collected over the years. There will be around 1200 items amongst which are puppets, stage settings and decorations.
