About

This fountain was built in the 18th century by instruction of João de Almada e Melo, at the north side of Praça da Ribeira. The architectural structure that surrounds the fountain occupies an area equal to a three-storey building. It shows the Portuguese coat of arms and below, a niche that has a contemporary image of São João by João Cutileiro.
