The Palácio do Bolhão, inaugurated on 27 March 2015, is a national monument that is nowadays a synergistic theatre that supports, at the same time, a school, ACE Escola de Artes (Arts School), and a theatre company, Teatro do Bolhão.
The company follows an eclectic model of theatrical production, bringing together a wide range of professionals in residence. The programme is carefully structured, with clear artistic and production goals and a justified repertory selection, including authors and texts, valuing the contemporary languages ​​of creation, and concerns with Portuguese dramaturgy, with attracting audiences and with the children's and school audiences. The renovation of the building, designed by architects José Gigante and João Gomes, won in 2016 the National Urban Renewal Award and the João de Almada Award by Porto City Hall and O Norte Somos Nós Award by CCDR- N, in 2017.
