The Polícia de Segurança Pública (Public Security Police), known as PSP is a security force, armed and united, with a duty of service to the public whilst holding administrative autonomy.
The PSP´s duty is to legally uphold democracy, guarantee internal security and the rights of its citizens, all of which are specified by law and the Constitution.
The PSP consists of the national directorate, the police units and the police teaching centres.
