Treasure of the Cathedral
Museums & Thematic Centres
About
Tesouro-Museu da Sé do Porto, located in the former Sala das Murças, houses part of what makes up the Treasury of the Cathedral. Featuring 102 permanently displayed pieces, some of which are occasionally removed for some ceremonies, the very rich and varied Treasury enables to contemplate vestments, books, engravings, liturgical paraments and some reliquaries.
The last room features pieces of profound historical richness and it is from this room that some pieces still come out for the festivities to aid the ceremonies.
The oldest and most permanently displayed, and the crown jewel in all space, is the Gothic-Manueline monstrance dating from the early 16th century, donated by Bishop D. Diogo de Sousa, and which bears his coat of arms. Near it, some reliquaries, such as the Santo Lenho reliquary (made with Wood from the Holy Cross), which is worth seeing.
