About

Inaugurated in 1707, this temple is monumental, spacious and luxurious.
The interior is filled with wood panelling and gilded carving.
The high choir stalls, one of the most important sets in the country, have narrative panels of the life of São Bento (Saint Benedict) embossed on the backrests.
The organ, one of the most emblematic pieces of Portuguese pipe organ manufactory, was restored and re-inaugurated in 2001.
