About

A screen, a stool and a guitar are the setting for "Ouviram do Abaporu", by the Brazilian singer, songwriter and activist Leo Bianchini. A show that tells the audiovisual history of Brazil's culture under the sign of independence, based on its popular songbook.

Under the baton of music history, it is through the understanding of a single Brazilian music that Leo Bianchini will sing excerpts from the urban folk songbook to trace the development of Brazilian art from its independences: the official proclamation by the Emperor D. Pedro, which celebrated 200 years in September, and the proclamation of artistic aesthetics that took place exactly a century ago when the 1922 Modern Art Week took place.

Through songs by key names such as Jackson do Pandeiro or Caetano Veloso, text and video screenings, the audience is invited to travel through time and Brazil’s history, told by its greatest cultural asset: music.

Directed and scripted by singer and researcher Naira Marcatto, "Ouviram do Abaporu" is part of the MPB - Movimento Porto Brasil programme, which the Coliseu has prepared to celebrate the 200 years of independence of its sister country.
