“The Beloved remains above Time, beyond any musical, rhythmic or literary technique, beyond death itself”, wrote Messiaen about his “Cinq Rechants. In them are symbols of love from diverse origins — from Shakespeare to Latin American popular culture. In a concert about love, the unavoidable romantic legacy is present through some of the most popular pages of Brahms' vocal music — first a cappella, with one of “Five Songs, op. 104”, then with the famous “Liebeslieder-Walzer” for choir and 4-hand piano, which close the concert with the lightness of popular style and the elegance of the waltz.
