About

Arnold Schoenberg's Chamber Symphony No.1 dates back to 1906 and went down in history for pointing to increasingly unstable sounds. New was also the number of musicians required: instead of the usual 70 or 80 instrumentalists, Schoenberg decides to compose for an orchestra of only 15 members, a reaction to the giant ensembles of Romanticism. The delicate Serenade of Maderna, from 1954, is an example of later approaches to dodecaphonism, showing all its expressive possibilities in a work of great lyricism. The orchestra is led by a renowned conductor of contemporary music, the Italian Emilio Pomàrico.
