The transcription challenge can be a way for someone to enter into another artist's music and, through this process, also become a creator of something new. Or was this not a practice of Johann Sebastian Bach himself, who transcribed the music of many other composers — and even his own. What may perhaps come as a surprise is that Bach's music, elevated to the pinnacle of perfection in its original form, proved at the same time adaptable to countless arrangements over more than two centuries. A true temptation to which plenty great composers have yielded, from Mozart to Schumann, from Liszt to Stravinsky and Schoenberg. Lucky for us, it's good to say. In addition to a Mahler’s suite over Bach's orchestral suites, the Orquestra Sinfónica presents here a set of keyboard works that sparked the imagination of Elgar, Webern and Stokowsky.
