About

It is one of the highest moments of Luchino Visconti's work, a nostalgic, dramatic and opulent recreation of the tumultuous years of Italian Unification. The aristocracy were losing its power and the rebels, headed by Garibaldi, were fighting for a democratic Italy. Burt Lancaster plays the Prince of Salina in a fabulous way, an aging man who observes the decay of his culture and fortune in the face of the rise of a new generation, represented by his upstart nephew (Alain Delon) and his beautiful bride (Claudia Cardinale). Adapted from the novel of the same name by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, The Leopard addresses the topic of the end of an era and the birth of another, with agreement solutions and the complicity of power with the old ruling classes. Hence, the famous phrase "if you want everything to stay the same, things will have to change". The film will be screened in its complete and uncut version, in a magnificent restored digital copy. Martin Scorsese, responsible for the restored version, stated when he presented it at the Cannes festival: “I live with this movie every day of my life.”
