This beautiful set of glass ampoules of various dimensions, containing mercury, calibrated and marked to serve as weights for precision balances, was acquired by the notable Porto-born chemist António Joaquim Ferreira da Silva, circa 1880 for the chemical laboratory of Academia Politécnica.
