About

Beethoven’s Trio op. 87, written for two oboes and an English horn, was born in the 1790s, shortly after the composer arrived in Vienna. It was created for Viennese amateurs who were eagerly looking for new chamber music and, in this programme, it appears alongside the other piece that Beethoven composed for this rare combination of instruments. The programme continues with one of the most appreciated works by J. C. Bach, a quintet with seductive and powerful melodies, and ends with a sparkling Serenade by Albert Roussel, seen as one of the fundamental figures of French music in the interwar period.
