Cidade Utópica

About
Surrogate Cities is a work with a wide artistic spectrum that does not fit in simple drawers or labels - just like its author, Heiner Goebbels. The theme is the city, with its complexities, people and buildings, stories and noises. And the metaphor of the city is nothing less than the orchestra, supplemented with electronic resources that translate the ever-changing mechanics and architecture of the city. This production has the stage direction of the composer himself, who will be at Casa da Música accompanying the Portuguese debut of a fundamental piece of the last decades. On stage, jazz singer Jocelyn B. Smith and experimentalist singer David Moss, both with a deep knowledge of the piece and Goebbels' favourite soloists. Based on texts by Hugo Hamilton, Paul Auster and Heiner Müller, the image and sound of the modern city is born, with all its fascinating contradictions.
“Surrogate Cities is a radical exercise that breaks musical boundaries and deserves to be heard” Andy Hamilton
