About

The Bristol Cathedral Choir is in Portugal and, on July 15th, at 6:30 pm, will give a special concert at Carmo Church.

The existence of the Bristol choir dates back to the foundation of the Augustinian monastery, in the year 1140. When it became the Cathedral in 1542, the choir already performed the function of singing in church services. Over the centuries, the goal has remained the same. The choir consists of 28 boys and girls, all of whom attend Bristol Cathedral Choir School, as well as 10 adult singers. The school was the first of its kind to have been founded in the UK.

The choir has performed in Poland, France, Germany, Italy and the United States. They have made several television and radio appearances, such as appearing on The White Princess series and BBC's Singing Live on Christmas Day 2016. The Choir has performed before the Pope in 2001, and with renowned soprano Emma Kirkby on Bristol Festival. One of the young singers won the 2005 Choirboy of the Year award, given by BBC Radio 2.
