About

Joaquim Santos Simões was born in 1995 in Coimbra. He began his studies of Classical Guitar at Academia de Música de Espinho, under the guidance of Professor Ricardo Abreu. He continued his studies at the Robert Schumann University in Dusseldorf with Professor Joaquín Clerch, where he completed his degree with honours and was awarded by the Ovar City Hall and Esmoriz Parish Council, with the title of Cidadão de Mérito. Currently attends the master's with Professor Joaquín Clerch, in the same institution. During his career he had the opportunity to perform in some renowned concert halls, such as Casa da Música (Porto), Tonhalle Duesseldorf, Manuel de Falla Auditorium (Madrid), Robert Schumann Saal and Palais Wittgenstein (Dusseldorf). He has won several awards in international guitar competitions, including the 1st prize at Concurso Internacional de guitarra de Amarante (2017) and the 1st Prize at the prestigious Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Andrés Segovia in Herradura (2018). He also won awards in Composition contests such as the 1st place in the solo instrument category with the piece “Transfigurações Nocturnas” for guitar solo at Prémio de Composição Século XXI - Bernardo Sassetti e Emmanuel Nunes.
